Senior Week 2018


About

Senior Week 2018 is the perfect opportunity for graduates to celebrate together one last time before officially becoming UI alumni!  This year’s events will be hosted Monday, April 23 through Friday, April 27.    

Instituted in the spring of 2014, Senior Week is a collaborative program between Campus Activities Board (CAB) and The University of Iowa Center for Advancement that allows graduating seniors to celebrate their time here as Hawkeyes.

Tickets

Only tickets purchased by April 9th will be guaranteed a t-shirt.

Tickets are $8 and can be purchased online, beginning March 26.

Ticket Package Includes: 

  • Official shirt of Senior Week 2018
  • A ticket for all 6 events (listed below) 
  • Glass flute from Last Lecture

Events

Monday, April 23 

Art & Appetite 

  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM, doors open at 5:45 PM 
  • IMU Main Lounge 
  • Create a hawkeye keepsake with our step-by-step instructions for making your own, unique painting, and enjoy light appetizers while you work. All supplies will be provided. 

Tuesday, April 24 

Last Lecture & Toast to Graduation

  • 7:30PM - 9:00 PM, doors open at 7:00PM
  • Second Floor Ballroom, IMU
  • Embrace the reflections of the alumni world by three University Member:
      • Professor Russell Ganim, Director, Division of the World Languages, Literatures & Cultures
      • Solomon Furious Worlds (17' BA)
      • Dr. Melissa Shivers, Vice President, Division of Student Life

All participants will be able to keep their glass flute.

Wednesday, April 25 

Always a Hawkeye Trivia Night 

  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM doors open at 6:30 PM
  • Big Grove Brewery & Taproom, Iowa City
  • Enjoy some fun Hawkeye trivia and free food while competing to win great prizes! Come with teams of 3-5 seniors. Space is limited, so don't be late!
  • All members of each team must purchase a Senior Week ticket package to participate. 

Thursday, April 26

Life with Phil Talk: Featuring Mark Kaufman 

  • 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM (CST)
  • Senate Chamber, Old Capitol Museum
  • Learn more about Phil from entrepreneur Mark Kaufman (86BS), the founder and president/CEO of Athletico.

Cappy Hour 

  • 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM 
  • Old Brick 
  • Enjoy some of your favorite dishes from Iowa City area restaurants at this free lunch! While you’re there, get inspired and decorate your graduation cap. We'll provide everything you need to decorate, just bring your own grad cap!  

Friday, April 27 

Senior Block Party 

  • Event starts at 7:30 PM, games begin at 7:00 PM 
  • Pentacrest
  • Enjoy an evening on the Pentacrest! Spend time with friends, music from your favorite DJ, play field games, retake your OnIowa! photo from Freshman year, and more!

 


Cappy Hour

GRAD CAP DECORATIONS

All seniors must follow the rules set by their respective ceremony, or their graduation cap will be replaced for the duration of the event.

College of Liberal Arts & Sciences:

  • No items will be allowed to dangle or protrude from the cap; only flat decorations will be permitted.
  • No lights or devices may be attached to the cap.
  • No inappropriate or profane language will be permitted.
  • No negative portrayal of the university or undergraduate experience.

College of Nursing:

  • No items will be allowed to dangle or protrude from the cap; only flat decorations will be permitted.
  • No lights or devices may be attached to the cap.
  • No inappropriate or profane language will be permitted.
  • No negative portrayal of the university or undergraduate experience.

Tippie College of Business:

  • No items will be allowed to dangle or protrude from the cap; only flat decorations will be permitted.
  • No lights or devices may be attached to the cap.
  • No inappropriate or profane language will be permitted.
  • No negative portrayal of the university or undergraduate experience.

College of Engineering:

  • No items will be allowed to dangle or protrude from the cap; only flat decorations will be permitted.
  • No lights or devices may be attached to the cap.
  • No inappropriate or profane language will be permitted.
  • No negative portrayal of the university or undergraduate experience.
  • No political verbiage or imagery.

Carver College of Medicine:

No decorations will be allowed. We invite you to decorate a second cap, but only plain, black caps will be worn for the ceremony.
